The annual Westport Independence Celebration will be held on July 3, 2021, with a number of activities and events, including the popular parade and fireworks display!
The day’s events begin with a 5K/1K Fun Run/Walk starting at the Library Lawn at 10am, with registration beginning at 9am. The entry fee is $20, children under 12 are free. All proceeds will go toward next year’s fireworks display.
The downtown will be action-packed all day with special events, including a multi-family/community estate sale from 9am-4pm on the Ballard Park lawn to benefit Ballard Park’s summer “Movies In The Park” series. There’s still time to donate an item or two to the park, or reserve a 12’ x 12’ space on the lawn to sell your own estate items. Contact BallardParkNY@gmail.com for more information.
The Westport Library Association’s Annual Book Sale makes its return, with books for all ages under the tent on the library lawn, and inside the library from 10am-4pm.
Main Street will also be home to an Opening Party for featured artists Robert Powell, Debra Kahler, Dennon Walantrus, and Elsa Koop-Angelico, with live music by TW Howell from 6-8pm, all based at and in front of the Ledge Hill Gallery downtown until the fireworks begin.
Showtime for the Depot Theatre’s July 3rd performance of THE MOUNTAINTOP is at 3pm – visit DepotTheatre.org for more information and tickets.
All interested are invited to participate in the popular parade down Main Street, whether walking, on a float, or other means of transportation! This year’s parade theme is “Holidays Galore.” With 5 cash prizes at stake, entries are encouraged to use any holiday decorations in a fun and creative way. Participants will line up at the Essex County Fairgrounds at 4:30pm, and the parade begins there at 5pm, ending at the Westport Library.
The day culminates with a bang – with a fireworks display at Lee Park on Lake Champlain beginning at 9pm. All are encouraged to arrive early to find seating, (bring blankets, chairs and bug spray), greet neighbors, and enjoy the community’s spectacular 15-minute celebration of independence!
Summer is in full swing in Westport, and whether it’s a round of golf, a brewery tasting, or a hike, residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the many restaurants, shops and recreational opportunities available during the holiday weekend and beyond.
