Creative Movement, Dance and Play
6-week series for adults
6:00-7:30pm
Tired of getting up and marching through the day with the same habitual, routinized movements? Are you feeling a bit out of sorts and restless, your body yearning for something it can’t quite define? Ready to meet new people and break free of work and winters drudge:
Join Betsey Thomas-Train and Scott Gibbs for Creative Movement, Dance and Play, designed to reinvigorate and reawaken the creative impulses that we all possess. The class begins with simple exercises of focused breathing, stretching and an aerobic warm-up. Then we explore a series of movement exercises that encourage us to find our authentic physical selves and to discover new responses between our physical movements and everyday life. We follow this up with selected theater and improvisational exercises, both individually and in small groups, that further encourage spontaneous body and mind movement. We usually conclude by trying to incorporate the themes of the evening into a group dance.
The entire experience is structured to be relaxed, unpressured and supportive to allow you to move to the beat of your own drummer. Every move you create is yours alone, and by joining with others, we invent a genuine and unique series of movements that reflect relationships that feel playful, grounded and real.
Beginning on Thursday evening, March 14, we will host a series of 6 classes that will run through April 18. Modest donation requested to cover our use of the Grange. No up front commitment; you may start at any point. (Whallonsburg Grange Hall)
