On Sunday, March 25, the Whallonsburg Grange Hall will welcome back the Cardinal Pickers, SUNY Plattsburgh’s student bluegrass band for a special afternoon performance starting at 3:00pm. The Cardinal Pickers are led by SUNY professor Tom Venne, who also plays lead guitar for the popular North Country band Beartracks. Venne has performed in festivals throughout the United States and Canada and was inducted into the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Cardinal Pickers are students in the college bluegrass music program and play traditional tunes on banjo, mandolin, dobro, and fiddle, infused with great harmonies. Musicians and singers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to bring instruments and stay for a jam session with the Pickers following the show. Soup, chili, cider and desserts will be provided.
The performance begins at 3:00 p.m., with the jam directly following. There is a $5 suggested donation, kids are free. The Grange is at 1610 NYS Route 22 in Essex. For more information visit www.thegrangehall.info.
