The Whallonsburg Grange in Essex, New York will end its 2019 music series with a performance by the New York City based duo, The Murphy Beds, on Saturday, November 23 at 7:30. Tickets are $12; under 18, $5.
Eamon O’Leary and Jefferson Hamer, The Murphy Beds, play traditional and original folk songs with close harmonies and deft instrumental arrangements on bouzouki, guitar, and mandolin. Steeped in music with Irish, Scottish and English roots, the two have played with artists across the folk spectrum and have each released solo albums. Hamer’s 2013 Child Ballads, a collection of 17thand 18thcentury ballads recorded with Anais Mitchell, was awarded the BBC Album of the Year.
Together, they take Dublin-born O’Leary’s deep education in Irish music and blend it with Hamer’s Americana roots to create timeless presentations of new and old songs that cross national boundaries. They were invited to perform at the Kennedy Center’s Folklife Series in Washington earlier this year.
The concert is sponsored by Pribble Excavating. The Whallonsburg Grange is located at 1610 NYS Route 22 (five miles from the ferry dock in the village of Essex). Visit www.thegrangehall.info for more information.
