John Cariani’s romantic comedy, Almost, Maine will be presented on October 22 and 23 at 7:00 p.m., and October 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Willsboro Central School Auditorium.
The following is a synopsis of the show:
On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
Drama Club Advisor and Director, Derrick A. Hopkins explains how Almost, Maine was chosen as this fall’s production:
“In theatre, I have found that most things are serendipitous,” he claims. “Last winter, I was researching potential plays to direct with my students. Nothing was really jumping out at me as right. A group of seven students, their parents, and I traveled to NYC to participate in the Broadway Student Summit, and I came with a list of plays to read. One of our workshops was with Broadway actor and playwright, John Cariani. I found him to warm, engaging, and quirky funny. I couldn’t figure why his name was familiar to me. As I scanned my list of potential plays, I found his play on my list! Instantly, I knew that his play, Almost, Maine, was the play for us!” Hopkins concluded, “Through this play, I have focused on the power of choice and how each actor can bring something unique and interesting to the stage if only he or she chooses it. For the past two months, the students have been working extremely hard on dissecting their characters, making choices, and honing their performances. I couldn’t be prouder of their work and growth as young artists.”
“We welcome everyone to the show,” declares Stephen Broadwell, Willsboro Superintendent. “Our student actors and actresses have worked very hard at creating a memorable performance for the audience. Everyone will be very impressed with our talented performers.”
