The historic hamlet of Essex, NY, on the shore of Lake Champlain, plans to host its 34th Downtown Essex Day on Saturday, August, 3 from 10AM to 4PM, rain or shine.
Downtown Essex Day Activities
A lively mix of long-time favorites will once again engage visitors of all ages. Antiques, collectibles, artwork, and crafts will be on sale at shops and booths throughout the hamlet and under a tent behind the town hall.
Visitors can listen to music while they explore, as Joan Crane will perform her popular blues/folk tunes on the lawn at Pantouf’s Glass Studio starting at 11AM.
Lunch or snacks can be enjoyed at the Old Dock House Restaurant, the historic Essex Inn, Essex Provisions, the Essex Ice Cream Café, the Pink Pig, and Chez Lin and Rays. Families can eat picnic lunches at Beggs Park where children can jump and slide on the playground equipment. There is also access to the lake for those who would like to swim.
History and architecture buffs will be able to stroll the streets of Essex, known for its mid-19th century buildings of stone and brick. The hamlet is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and protected by ordinances that help manage growth and change while preserving the historical integrity of the town.
Walk-on tickets for the Essex-Charlotte ferry will be half-price when purchased between 10AM and noon the day of the event thanks to the Lake Champlain Transportation Company. Take a soothing jaunt across the lake and back.
Downtown Essex Day is sponsored by the community-based Essex Initiatives. For more information, contact Richard Robbins at 518-963-4135 or robbinsr@westelcom.com.
