We have something new for children at the Belden Noble Memorial Library: circulating educational toys! When we selected these toys, we tried to find something for every age group.
Here’s the list (roughly from toys for youngest to oldest):
- Wooden nesting blocks
- Wooden cutting foods
- Wooden cutting fruits
- Playsilks for dress up
- Bat wings
- Dragon wings
- Fairy wings (two sets)
- Cube puzzle of farm animals
- Four-element Building Blocks
- Stencil box
- Puzzle people (to build and balance)
- interlocking blocks (92 pieces)
- Juggling Sticks
- Walking blocks
- “Keep it Steady” stick game
- Farm animal card and dice game
- Geometric shape nailing board
- Deep space home planetarium & projector
- First microscope
- Steamboat
- Leaf press
- Leonardo Bridge (for building without fasteners)
Toys are on a cart in the children’s room and ready for check out. They must be picked up and returned to this library, and they cannot be renewed (we want to keep them circulating!). When children check out toys, we will be pleased to help them select books related to their selections.
The idea for this collection came from Stephanie Beneng, our library assistant. The collection was purchased with funds donated by generous patron. Toys can be carried home in beautiful tote bags hand-painted by another generous patron. You can see some of the toys and tote bags in the photo.
We hope to see kids come in and check out these toys soon! If you know of other parents and children who would be interested, please let them know.
