Congratulations to Elaine Miller for improving the aroma and flavor of Essex in winter! A seasoned cook and baker, Miller most recently plied her culinary genius at The Deers Head Inn Restaurant in Elizabethtown.
Earlier this fall Wayne Gryk voiced a hope shared by many Essex residents that the Essex Ice Cream Cafe would remain open year-round.
Essex Ice Cream Cafe is looking for someone who is passionate about cooking, baking and food service to operate the facility this fall and winter. Baked goods, Espresso drinks, and cafe style food have met with great success this summer. We are hoping to expand the offering and experiment with winter hours. The town of Essex is eager to have a year round cafe. ~ Wayne Gryk (September 29, 2012)
My delicious lunch today is the answer to all of our wishes.
What a lunch! Roasted vegetable soup, espresso fudge brownie and lots of neighborhood hobnobbing at the Esse http://t.co/dWAbcoNY

I enjoyed a flavorful roasted vegetable soup, an sinfully decadent espresso fudge brownie and lots of neighborhood hobnobbing. There was a steady stream of friendly, familiar faces passing through and lots of excitement that we’ll have another dining option in town.

Building on the momentum of the Essex Inn and Live Well who have demonstrated the viability of twelve month businesses in Essex, Elaine Miller will be serving breakfast and lunch at the Essex Ice Cream Cafe. Currently Miller is open between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm, but she is actively soliciting feedback and advice from customers in order to custom tailor her schedule and menu to the needs of the community. She’s considering opening earlier to accommodate ferry commuters, and she is also hoping that there might be interest in Sunday breakfast.
Now’s the time to swing by and introduce yourself. Aside from the delicious meal or snack you can expect, this is your opportunity to tell Miller what you would enjoy. Breakfast burritos? Bagels? Sunday brunch? Let her know what you want, and she’ll do her best to shape this popular Essex hangout around your desires.
And — because I know you want to know — yes, the Essex Ice Cream Cafe will be serving delicious seasonally appropriate ice cream (current top choices include Cappuccino Crunch and Pumpkin) and brewed-to-order espresso, cappuccino prepared using gourmet Intelligentsia coffee beans which are also available for sale along with Adirondack granola and Essex Ice Cream Cafe merchandise.
Now if only Elaine Miller would start preparing some Adirondack Mountain Creams…
