Proposed revisions that strengthen and modernize the Essex Town Zoning Laws — which have long been in the works with six years of study, input from citizens at three public hearings and an extensive environmental review required by the state — are slated for final adoption early next year according to an article in the Press Republican.
The language in the Zoning Law has been amended to strengthen and clarify what constitutes a violation, a Forestry Use section was added, and legal definitions have been refined and added by Attorney William Kissel of Lake Placid. Also, if the changes are approved, wind turbines and communications towers will not be allowed in the hamlet areas. (Press Republican)
Documents explaining the proposed revisions to the Town of Essex Zoning Law are posted on the town’s website (hosted on Essex On Lake Champlain) — www.townofessex.us — under the section “Proposed Zoning and Planning.” Explore and read about the changes there. You may also obtained printed copies from the Town Hall for a fee.
The council plans to hold a public hearing on the revisions in January 2015, possibly followed by further changes and an amended State Environmental Quality Review before final adoption. (Press Republican)
Essex residents and interested parties are encouraged to review the revisions, and are invited to ask questions and suggest improvements at the public meeting in January or beforehand by contacting the Town Hall.
