The heat and humidity have made the last few days seem even longer. The farmers and animals around here are all a bit cranky and really sweaty by the end of the day, looking forward to the sun dipping behind the hills. Other than heat, this week has been dominated by animal moves. We’ve joined the three small cattle herds we were managing into one large herd, and a second very small herd with our three young heifers too young to breed. Hal, the bull, is back in his glory. And there is a lot of noise and bellowing from everyone.
We’re preparing for our big, annual out-of-towner work party beginning this Saturday and running through next weekend. We’re focusing most of our attention on the fallen barn, hoping to get the site finally cleaned up and put to order. We’ll also start closing in and stabilizing the cow barn to it’s east. There will be some fun round bale moving and compost flipping in the plans as well. If you have a day of a few hours please come by, meals are included. Email or call if you have any questions.
In the veggie share this week: green beans, zucchini, broccoli, basil, carrots, beets, turnips, kale, chard, bunching onions, peas, garlic scapes, lettuce heads, lettuce mix, black and white beans. We are approaching the season of extras! If you are interested in bulk quantities of veggies for putting up please email back and I’ll put you on the is list for basil, zucs, green beans, tomatoes…
In the meat share: chickens and pork.
See you all tonight between 4 and 6,
Sara Kurak
