Looking for Mary Wade?
Mary Wade’s Gift Shop, located on the north end of Begg’s Point Street in Essex, NY, has been a summer fixture for 30 years. Collectors of Mary’s artwork often found her there excited to show her new creations and ready for a friendly chat. Her wooden, cutout buildings of Essex – painted in fine detail – have been collected by many past and present residents as well as summer visitors who wish to take a “little bit of Essex” home with them.
Mary has had recent health problems and late this past summer, word got around that she was reluctantly moving out of her shop. Donna Sonnett, owner of the Cupola House Gallery, has know Mary for 2 decades and did not want the town to lose this remarkable lady or her artwork. A solution was offered and accepted. Mary Wade has since moved some samples of her artwork to the Cupola House Gallery. Her brightly painted signs, birdhouses, flower vases and river rocks fit in well with Donna’s collection of American folk art, quilts and collectibles and….Mary occasionally comes for a visit, hoping to chat with friends and customers who have tracked her down!
Mary Wade is still painting at her home on Middle Road in Willsboro. She is willing to take orders and can be reached at (518) 963-4140 or e-mail her: mwade33@willex.com.
The Cupola House Gallery, located at 2278 Main St. Essex – (just south of the Essex Inn), will continue to have her work on display throughout the holiday season. It is open on weekends (Fri.-Sun.) and by appointment from now until Christmas. Phone – (518) 963-7494.
We also hope to see you at the annual Magic of Christmas in Essex event on December 9th!
Thanks again to Donna for helping my mother. To say she left her shop reluctantly is a polite way of stating what actually happened.
