Spirit of Place—translate to Spirit of the Champlain Valley. All artists living, working in, or visiting the Lake Champlain Region are invited to participate in a grand and diverse art exhibition at the Westport Heritage House this summer.
The Spirit of Place Exhibition runs from July 1, 2015, to Labor Day. A silent auction begins July 1 and concludes August 8, at 3 pm on Westport Festival Day. Work that is not sold by auction will continue on sale at the artist’s stated value. Proceeds from sales go to the artists (70%) with the remainder benefiting the Westport Heritage House. A small portion from these funds is being set aside to eventually purchase gallery lighting for Heritage House exhibits.
Typically, this exhibit includes painting, pottery, collage, sculpture, fabric art, photography and more. A Meet the Artists Reception is planned for Thursday, July 16, just prior to the Soundwaves concert in Ballard Park, across the street. Geographically, the artists range north and south from Willsboro or Chesterfield to Ticonderoga, and to the west from Westport to Keene or Keene Valley.
Now in its 8th season, Spirit of Place will also include Artist Studio Tours, which allows the public to visit where local creativity happens. Art makers will open their studios on the last Saturday of July, August, and September. A complete list may be obtained from the Westport Heritage House or on their website after June 15.
A Call to Artists is being mailed in early May. If, as an artist, you do not receive this detailed information, please call Meredith at 518-962-4590 or Nancy at 518-962-4805. Non-artists, watch for more information this summer about this visual treat!
