Meditation is an age old practice used to balance both the mind and the body and improve overall health. In this 6 week series, you’ll learn and practice the tools and techniques to develop your own meditation practice in a supportive space. Each class is 40 minutes long consisting of discussion topics in meditation, deep breathing and stretching for relaxation and a group meditation. We’ll begin the course with guided meditations and work up to deeper, silent meditation. Classes taught by Susan Cerny, Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher.
~April 25 – What is Meditation? Why meditate? How to sit. Mindfulness breathing exercises. Practice guided meditation.
~May 2 – Physiology and Neurobiology of Meditation How does meditation affect the body and brain? Current research on the benefits of meditation for the mind/body. Guided body scan meditation practice. Silent meditation practice.
~May 9 – Yoga and Meditation Why yoga and meditation go together so well. Mindful movement practice Guided meditation practice.
~May 16 – History of Meditation Meditation throughout the ages Types of meditation. Practice guided into silent meditation.
~May 23 – Transforming Negative Emotions Through Meditation Loving-kindness guided meditation into silent meditation.
~May 30 – Bringing Mindfulness into Daily Life Mindful eating, exercise and rest. Guided movement and breath work . Twenty five minute silent meditation Journal/Final Discussion.
